A bit about me
I’m a writer and designer based in Dallas. Most of what I do comes down to how a brand sounds — the voice, the words, and the things the words live inside.
I started at Common Desk as a marketing coordinator and stayed three years, eventually running communications for twenty-eight locations with two direct reports and two agencies. It was the kind of place where you could write a thousand words on how to make a proper cappuccino and have that be the right call. I wrote the company’s voice guide, rebuilt the member newsletter twice, ran campaigns from concept through launch, handled press and location openings, and designed most of what I wrote.
Now I’m at City Electric Supply, an electrical distributor with 750+ branches across North America and more than 5,000 people in it. I rewrote the corporate brand guide — mission, vision, messaging, voice — and rebuilt it as an Airtable interface so teams could apply the standards on their own. I built the company’s blog content measurement from the ground up, own external communications for our biennial conference, and bring order to editorial processes through smart, integrated systems.
The work I like best sits between writing and design. A brand guide nobody opens isn’t a brand guide, and a campaign that looks great but says nothing isn’t a campaign. I’m usually the one holding both halves — the editorial standard and the thing it’s being applied to. Because I write and design, there are fewer handoffs, and I catch it when a sentence reads badly because the layout is bad.
Outside of work, I love to walk at the lake or spend time with my nephews. I browse the library in person, with no list and no holds, and leave with an armful of things I didn’t know I was looking for. I take coffee more seriously than is strictly necessary — see above — and I’m always making something crafty on the side.
